Role Overview

What Does a TSA / Airport Security Officer Do?

TSA and airport security officers screen passengers, baggage, and cargo to ensure aviation safety. The Transportation Security Administration is a federal agency — TSA officers are federal employees with a separate hiring process, pay scale, and benefits package compared to private security contractors.

DFW International Airport and Dallas Love Field are two of the busiest airports in the country, generating consistent demand for both TSA officers and private airport security personnel. Private contractors handle perimeter security, access control, and non-screening functions alongside TSA.

Airport security roles require passing a federal background check, drug screening, and in the case of TSA, a medical evaluation and color vision test. Most positions offer full federal benefits including health insurance and retirement.
